Prolific Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has been announced as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2021.
Johnson is a First-Ballot Hall of Famer in 2021 along with fellow enshrinees Charles Woodson and Peyton Manning.
Calvin Johnson Career Bio
In less than ten years, Calvin Johnson made a permanent mark on the wide receiver position.
Johnson was drafted with the No.2 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and signed a $64 million contract to become the franchise’s highest-paid player at the time.
‘Megatron’ broke out during the 2008 season, his second year in the league, catching 78 passes for 1,331 receiving yards and leading the NFL with 12 receiving touchdowns.
His third season saw a small dip in production before he truly hit his stride during the 2010 season.
From 2010 through the rest of his career, Johnson was nearly untouchable. In 2011, Johnson led the league with 1,681 receiving yards and had a career-best 16 touchdowns.
Then in 2012, his Hall of Fame campaign started. Johnson led the league with 122 receptions and amassed 1,964 receiving yards, the highest single-season total in NFL history.
The momentum didn’t stop after this record-breaking season, as Johnson surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in his final three seasons in the league before retiring early following the conclusion of the 2015 season.
Because of a shorter tenure in the league, Johnson doesn’t sit high on many of the all-time lists, but his single-season production year by year has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest receivers to ever grace the NFL.
