How to Get Tickets to the Super Bowl

By Victoria Barnett

It goes without saying that the demand for Super Bowl tickets significantly exceeds the supply. You can’t just go online and buy tickets directly from the NFL. However, you do have other options ranging from a random drawing to the secondary market to ticket package companies. Some are risky; some are not.

Tickets can be hard to find, especially from a reputable source. Because of this, we are breaking down five different ways you can get tickets to the Super Bowl. Let’s get started!

The Lottery

Now, we aren’t talking about the famous Powerball lottery – although, you might need to win that to be able to afford certain Super Bowl tickets. All jokes aside, even with plenty of expendable income, an individual does not have a direct way to purchase tickets to the Super Bowl. In other words, the NFL does not sell tickets to travel agents or the like.

However, each year, the NFL holds a random drawing and those selected will have the opportunity to purchase two tickets at face value. The drawing is held between February 1 and June 1 in the year preceding the Super Bowl. It’s fairly easy to enter, but all you can really do is cross your fingers and hope for the best. If you are one of the lucky ones who gets selected, you have to pick up your tickets on site on the day of the game.

Participating Teams

The majority of tickets are given to the two participating teams, with a handful scattered throughout the other NFL teams. So unless you have a family member or best friend in the Super Bowl, then good luck!

Secondary Market

The secondary market has become an option for many football fans, but you have to be aware of the risk involved. Each year, Super Bowl tickets end up in the hands of ticket brokers, who love to change the price on a whim. They will promise tickets to people without actually having the tickets. They just “hope” they can get them.

You are taking a risk and can’t really feel a sense of security about the whole ordeal. The majority of the time you aren’t guaranteed a ticket; you are just guaranteed your money back on that ticket if for some reason it ends up not existing.

You can book your hotels, get your plane tickets and plan your whole trip only to be told last minute that you don’t have tickets. That is a lot of money down the drain.

eBay or Craigslist

The scariest of all! You will find an assortment of Super Bowl tickets on eBay or Craigslist, but you really have no idea what you might end up with it. This is probably the riskiest option of all and you have to be leery of people trying to scam you. Sure, there are some great people out there, but I personally would prefer my tickets come from a reputable source.

Ticket Package Companies

One of your safest options is to go through a ticket package company that has a direct relationship with either the NFL or the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Your tickets are 100% guaranteed, and the prices are also very competitive. Whereas prices for tickets can fluctuate with the market, the prices of ticket packages do not. It’s a safe and convenient way for you to attend the Super Bowl. Plus, the packages typically include other amenities such as food and drinks.
